DIY Save The Date Magnets

I almost completely forgot about these! They went out a few months ago, but I was waiting until everyone got theres before I blogged about it. So without further adieu…Our Save The Date Magnets.

I’m not sure where I originally saw the idea to do Magnets, but its a pretty common Save The Date idea. I looked online a bit. There are lots of websites where you can order Magnets, but none of them really worked for me. The ones that I could afford were too simple and didn’t let me customize them enough. In the end my friend Kayleah told me that she actually made her own, and that it wasnt to hard. So we did too!

I suppose the most difficult part of our magnet was designing it. I did the entire design in Photoshop. I kind of obsessed over it for a while. I want the perfect font that was unique and bridal, but not too girly (I ended up downloading one from here for free). The colors were also a pain to match (in the end I still wouldn’t say I was 100% happy with the colors). Mr. Gaunt and I came up with the idea to do the Silhouettes one evening and went with it. I don’t have any pictures on how to do a silhouette, but basically we took profile pics of ourselves against a blank background, and then in Photoshop I erased the background, made them solid black and did a little “clean up” of the edges (ok ok I shaved off my double chin…sue me!) I think they turned out really cute.

After the design was completed I made a file that had our image correctly sized over and over on a 10″ x 16″ template (room for cut off on a 11″ x 17″ paper) then we took it to Kinkos and had them print off 5 full color 11″ x 17″ sheets. Our magnets were 3″x3″ so we got 15 per sheet, 75 total magnets (which although our guest list is closer to 120, many of these are families who only got one magnet per household).

Then I bought self stick Magnet Sheet at Michaels using a 40% off coupon. They were around $11 a roll and I think I got 2 rolls, but only used 1.5. We printed off two coupons and went through two different lines so we got two rolls for like $13. The printing was around $2 a sheet I think.

After we had them printed I used my sweet Fiskars Paper Cutter (another good item to purchase with a Michael’s coupon) to cut my squares out. (NOTE: because I did not have a border on my magnet design, I made sure to have tiny corner lines marking where to cut) Then I laid them out touching side by side on the sticky side of the sheet magnet. The Sheet magnet was a bit large so there was some excess. Then I used scissors to hand cut out each one.

Done!

Of course they weren’t all perfect. Which is why I made a few extra, plus we wanted to keep a few for our memory box.

Love Paper. Hate Printers

The “feeder” on my printer broke tonight which means if I cant figure out how to fix it I will be hand addressing 70 Save The Dates this weekend….LAME-O! But it only makes sense as I JUST put new ink into it (see bottom of this post)

In other news I have a basic theme I’m going off of for our “paper-goods” for the wedding, but the world of beautiful invitation is overwhelming! How can I pick just one style?

Wanna Drool….go here to Oh So Beautiful Paper and look through the invites!

Id also like to note that for the last 4 years I have been so sad over the lack of a Paper Zone in Colorado, until today when we found (from a friends recommendation) Donahue Paper Emporium, which is a HUGE Paper Zone like store! Gah I’m sad it took me until I only have 41 days left here to discover it!

However we did find Save The Date envelopes! I was looking for a Grey or mustard (no such luck except metallic which I didn’t want) but I did find AWESOME envelopes made from 100% recycled grocery bags! They weren’t even expensive! woop! They don’t have a website, but you can buy Greengrocer Brown Bag Envelopes here.

I still have about 6 months until I need to figure out the actual invites, which is cool, mama can help me.

Oh and I hate printers….this is funny…(anyone who wants to buy me the poster of this is more than welcome to…it will be framed and hung in my living room…promise):

Why I Believe Printers Were Sent From Hell:

The Yuck, The Wedding, and The Move

I feel extra yucky today.

I read a magazine in the car today (for like 5 minutes) and now I have a headache and nausea….car reading is the DEVIL!

We went to the bridal fair today. It was fun, we had some samples and got some free stuff, along with a TON of crap we don’t want. The samples gave me a weird heartburn…ugg.

I also wore High heels, which are actually pretty comfortable, but I wore them grocery shopping afterward and now I have a blister on my pinky.

I feel extra fat these days. none of my pants really fit, so I’m wearing leggings way too often.

Sounds like our car sold today, officially a car-less person. This makes me nervous for the future.

In slightly better news, I made all of our SAVE THE DATES last night. I’m also 99% done collecting people address’ for the wedding, which is good. I need to call my grandma to get a few more. Hoping to send them out in the next month.

I also am in need of Grey A1 Envelopes to mail the Save The Dates, as I think a quality colored envelope is extra special. Mr. Gaunt even figured out how to print all the address’ directly on the envelopes, which will save us a lot of time and look nicer. My handwriting is only good for about 20 envelopes, not 70.

I applied for a job today, one that I’m not really qualified for, but would love to have. I mean as far as corporate jobs go. What I really want is to work for myself, not someone else, but it may be a few years. Gotta get Mr. Gaunt through school. I still have two seasonal back-ups.

It sounds like the house we wanted to rent is a done deal. This is a pretty big stress reliever. Its going to be fun fixing it up and growing a garden and all that good stuff. I’m very much looking forward to having my brother help me plant some stuff and pour a slab for a patio.

I booked my plane ticket home! March 14th at 10am I am officially BACK IN WASHINGTON! So pleasing, no going back now.

We found out Jenny and Justin are having a GIRL! I’m so excited for this! We are gonna have Liam pull her down the aisle in a little flower covered wagon….adorable I know. Makes me super sad that we wont be here for her birth.  Liam wants to name her Firetruck Sue…I know, its perfect.

Our neighbor always locks her Kitten out in the hall, so we took it in for the afternoon. It pretty much assures me that I DO NOT need a kitten. Hula is all the cat that I require. A dog on the other hand could be fun.

It sounds like my little sister wants to be my workout buddy when I move! I’m super stoked to get gym memberships with her and start getting in shape! I’m just so much looking forward to bonding with my family again.

Well that’s about it, sorry to ramble, but it helped make some of the Yuck go away. Asparagus for dinner tonight!

I leave you with some pics from this weekend:
