Buh Bye Blue

Our landlord is a total Jekyll and Hyde. Whenever Mr. Gaunt talks to him on the phone he is crazy and evil and “INSISTS HE COME OVER DESPITE ME HAVING THE FLU IN BED!” and then he comes over and he is super sweet and apologetic. Its bazaar.

So two weeks ago we called him and told him we were leaving a month early. This is only ok in our books because we never actually signed another lease. We have been here 2.5 years, and had a lease only for the first year, so whats he gonna do? However Mr. Gaunt is a lot more paranoid nicer than me and agreed to doing a very short notice walk through with him and his wife (who lives in California and we have never met). So we scoured the house and lit yummy candles and they came over.  We managed to hide the flaws (broken towel rod and screwed up bathroom sink) and accentuated the positives (made bed, clean stove) and overall they seemed pleased with how the place looked. BUT Homegirl decides that she isn’t cool with the paint color. She didn’t directly say she  didn’t like it, more that she was concerned that it wouldnt match new tenants taste. Yeah your boring white didn’t match MY taste so I painted it, that’s what you do! He actually really liked it, so we all compromised and agreed that the bedroom could stay and that we would just need to paint the livingroom to match that olive/tan color of the entry way. Fine.

So today we cleaned and packed and moved furniture. Mr. Gaunt taped off and I painted over my LOVELY Perwkinle grey….sad day. The color really looked so nice against the dark cherry cabinets and the (in my opinion slightly too orange) wood floors. And especially looked stellar against our perfect Greige couch. However they want boring, so now there is a very drab olive/tan where my beautiful blue once was.

The day wasnt a total bust though. Mr. Gaunt was especially willing to run errands, which meant Starbucks, Chipotle, and Thin Mint Girl Scout Cupcakes…swoon. And it was super sunny and Hula looked especially adorable sun bathing.

House = Complete disaster

Might I have 3 jobs?

Tonight is my first night at my new job. I’m excited and nervous, and a little scared. Not really because of the job, more because I realized today that this is my 3rd job. I have my “real” full-time job that I go to Monday-Friday 6-2:30. And then I have my “please please please one day make enough to be my real job” job of doing custom paintings. This I work on 1-2 hours daily, but is not something I get paid hourly for, obviously. And now my new part-time seasonal job, that will be 12-16 hours a week through February. It’s a lot to wrap my head around, and I worry I may be pushing myself past my limit. However there are BIG goals in sight and I need to buckle down and make them happen!

Today was full of laundry and grocery shopping. I’m starting Weight Watchers again tomorrow night, which I am SOOO excited about (and will do a long post tomorrow after the meeting) and yesterday was a Octoberfest Beer Tasting at a friend’s house (Pumpkin Whoopie Pies were a huge hit, and I will post that later too).

I’m hoping all this work will only keep me busy enough not to let my mind get all crazy with anticipation of moving and wedding, but not keep me too busy so that I have no time to blog or love my man. Speaking of Mr. Gaunt, I will be leaning on him a lot to do the “house husband” duties, and I’m sure he will be amazingly supportive as always.

And so I leave you with some adorable pictures of Hula, because until we have kids she is my baby and I think she is just precious!

Eggplant, Swimming, Grilling, Babies!

Every now and then my fridge gets overrun with veggies. This isn’t  a bad thing, but I HATE when I let stuff go bad (in all honesty it does happen from time to time) so when things are looking too full I often get a little crazy and start throwing mass amounts of veggies into whatever I’m making.

Last week I got an Eggplant in my Door to Door Organics box, I had previously let one go bad so I was determined to use it up! Mr. Gaunt did a landscaping job last week for extra cash, so I was trying to be a good girlfriend and have dinner ready for him. Here lies the problem: Mr. Gaunt + Eggplant =BAD! He hates Eggplant. HATES IT! I thought I could secretly convince him it was yummy by making: Eggplant Parmesan, Eggplant lasagna, and now Eggplant Spaghetti. No such luck.

In the end I picked out all the Eggplant for him, and he was a happy camper, and I got leftover Eggplant all week! Yay!

Along with Eggplant I needed to use 3 tomatoes and 1 zucchini that night. The spaghetti was super easy though, I sautéed the cubed Eggplant in olive oil, then added the zucchini, then the tomatoes. When they were all nice and cooked I threw in 1/2 a jar of Spaghetti Sauce. Poured over whole Wheat past…yum! What’s not to like?  Oh and because I realized Mr. Gaunt would hate it, I added some Mango Chicken Sausage slices (we got them at Costco, and I’m just not sure I really like them) in the end.

Summer is pretty much here now! We are going to a GRAND OPENING POOL PARTY at Jenny and Justin’s this weekend! I’m so freaking excited to start swimming everyday now!  Also on my list of summer LIKES: BBQing! Mr. Gaunt and I own a very nice (never been opened) Charmglow BBQ (similar to this one) that Mr. Gaunt got two years ago on clearance. Problem is we don’t have a deck, porch or yard that we can set it up in, so it sits in Ms. G’s garage in the box. Sad day. I have been CRAVING grilled veggies and corn. Drooling over the pictures on FoodGawker.com. I think I’m gonna bring some Veggie Kabobs to the party on Sunday, and then take some to Ms. G’s house to use on her grill!

And I leave you with some adorable pics of when Liam met Hula this weekend. They were best buds, too stinkin cute!
